The Shopify admin lets you manage your products but sometimes advanced users need additional options that aren’t available. Recognizing this, we built the Bulk Editor app for Shopify which allows you to dynamically edit products in bulk and to perform tasks you couldn’t normally do otherwise.

Today we’ll cover one of these situations, how to delete all products in a Shopify collection.

Since the Bulk Editor can’t delete products directly (all edits through the app can be undone) we’ll do the following:

  • Install the Bulk Editor app for Shopify
  • Add a tag to all products in the collection
  • Use the Shopify admin to filter for the tag and delete all matching products

Let’s get started!

Install the Bulk Editor app for Shopify

If you don’t already have the app you can install it from the Shopify app store. The installation process is straightforward and comes with a fully-featured three-day trial.

After you install the app it will sync all your products. This is a one-time process that we do so we can do custom searches on your product.

Once the initial import is complete you’re ready to go!

Add a tag to all products in a collection

Now that we have the app installed let’s add a tag to all products in the collection we want to delete. In our example we’ll add the tag delete_me to all products in the Collection Name collection.

First, use the Filter Products button to filter for all the products in the collection. Once we see the matching products click on the purple Next button:

One the edit page we’ll say we want to change the Tag field by adding a new tag named delete_me:

Then click Preview to preview the edit. A popup window will show you what the edit will look like:

If all looks good click the Run Edit button. The edit will run in the background. Depending on the number of products it may take several minutes to complete:

Use the Shopify admin to filter for the tag and delete all matching products

Now that we have the delete_me tag assigned we can use the regular Shopify admin to delete the product. Go to the products page of the Shopify admin by clicking the Products link on the left menu. Then, use the Filter Products dropdown to search for all products with the delete_me tag:

Click on the top checkbox to select all products. If you have more than 50 products listed, also click on Select all 50+ products from your store:

Click on the dropdown arrow next to the Edit Products button and choose Delete selected products from the dropdown menu:

Shopify will ask you to confirm that you want to delete your products. If you’re sure you want to proceed click Delete:

After you click delete Shopify will delete the products in the background. Depending on the number of products you have it might take several minutes for them to disappear from your site.

Conclusion

This is just one example of how power users can use the Bulk Editor app to manage their products with ease. If you haven’t checked the app out yet try out a free trial today!
